Ying said he knew practically nothing about local music when he started. With all the emails that aspiring local musicians send them, they've gotten a more grassroots understanding of where the scene is heading. According to these emails, Okoren said rock and hip hop are growing, with folk music gradually losing its foothold. Interestingly, she also noted the lack of diversity among female performers something she hopes to work at changing as The Couch Series goes forward.
